PTFCW Spotlight: Ability Counts

Updated: Nov 2, 2023

Vice Chairman Andy White meets the Ability Counts Team at one of their midweek training sessions

Kevin Tipper (wearing the blue t-shirt with sunglasses on) has been with the Club since 2015. Kev now runs the Ability Counts team and enjoys it immensely. The team consists of players via the pan-disability football format which covers all manner of impairments and health conditions.

The Ability Counts team plays in conjunction with Headway Dorset and play as part of the Inclusion Hub.

WHO ARE HEADWAY DORSET?

Headway is a brain injury focused charity. Headway work very hard to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and provide information, support and services to survivors, their families and carers. In addition, Headway will campaign to reduce the incidence of brain injury.

The team is focused on a walking football style meaning that it is an easier entry route for all to enjoy, with a more relaxed atmosphere combined with the competitiveness of the game. This is ideal not only for brain injured players, but for all forms of disability.

They train every week at the County Ground Hamworthy (Weds 4pm to 5pm) and enjoy matches which this season they are playing via KixStart. Full information about KixStart and the festivals is below this story.

YOUR TEAM NEEDS YOU!

We are always looking out for people who either want to take part OR help with our Ability Counts team. Kev is currently running the team by himself and urgently needs some assistance to help deliver sessions. All you need is a basic knowledge of football and to want to help this important part of the Club.

As with all aspects of football, this element provides a fantastic opportunity for the players to exercise, learn and play football, as well as make new friends and enjoy the social aspect of the game.

Well done Kev and Team.
